5 kms from Gordes, you must visit Sénanque Abbey, a Cistercian monastery and real peace haven.
The Monks have been growing lavender since the sixties, hence these superb photographs of lavender fields with the monastery in the background. They also produce honey and olive oil.
Another place to discover near Gordes is the Bories village.
Bories are small huts built by farmers or shepherds with the stones they found in situ using dry stone walling methods. Dry stone walling involves laying chosen stones without using any binder such as cement, lime or earth.
